In the race for marks and exams, science classrooms often become places of memorization rather than understanding. Children learn answers, but rarely get the space to reason, question, or wonder. Experiments and labs, when they exist, are treated as isolated activities, missing the opportunity to build scientific thinking. Over time, this weakens students’ ability to observe carefully, think logically, and make sense of the world.

The Karkhana Science Program exists to change this reality inside schools. It is a school-based program designed to strengthen scientific thinking from an early age by making science something children do, not just read about. Students learn science through building, trying, observing, questioning, and experimenting in ways that align with their age and academic curriculum. The program works closely with teachers, because scientific thinking cannot grow without confident educators.

Core Features of Karkhana Science Program 2083

Karkhana’s Children In Your Classroom

Karkhana sends its three children, Tara, Jeewan, and Jigyasha, into your classrooms to learn alongside your students. They play, explore, ask questions, and grow together through stories in our activities and workbooks, making science feel connected, personal, familiar, and continuous throughout the year.

A Classroom Science Bag, Not A Lab Dependency

Each classroom receives a science bag filled with over 100 simple, different materials linked to different activities, along with a guided student workbook. Students use these materials to build, try, and explore science concepts inside their regular classrooms, reducing dependencies on science labs

Curriculum-aligned Learning For The Full Academic Year

More than 28 structured activities are spread across the year, carefully aligned with the national curriculum and age-appropriate learning goals. These are designed with Karkhana’s pedagogical approach, CAT (Curiosity – Activity – Thinking), to foster scientific thinking through each activity.

Teacher Professional Growth With Certification

Teachers receive initial in-person training, followed by weekly virtual classes for teachers, classroom observation, and hands-on guidance to strengthen practical science pedagogy. Teachers’ professional growth is formally recognised through certification from Kathmandu University School of Education, earning 2 academic credits each year.

Regular School Visits, Follow-ups And Progress Reports

Karkhana teams regularly visit schools to support teachers and school leaders, coordinate activities, solve challenges in real time, monitor progress, and share clear updates and reports with school leadership.

Authentic Science Practical Exams For Students

The program supports teachers to meet curricular requirements through a structured practical assessment framework. This ensures students receive practical marks based on real experience, observation, reasoning, and hands-on work, not just written answers.

Technology-Enabled Teacher Support through the Karkhana Science Teacher’s App

The Karkhana Science Program is supported by a dedicated teacher app that helps teachers plan and schedule classes, access lesson plans, resources, and question banks, and receive ongoing training support. The app also allows teachers and school leaders to track real time progress of the Karkhana Science Program, ensuring better coordination, visibility, and continuous improvement across the academic year.
